Broadcast Recordings of an Anonymous Berliner 1986–89
When I bought a box full of used audio cassettes labelled »empty«, I was surprised to discover an anonymous contemporary document in the form of recordings by an unknown person between 1986 and 1989. This cassette, with it’s cover/inlay resembling the famous Suhrkamp paperbacks, holds a selection of the most impressive, banal and beautiful passages from that collection. Music ranging from Schubert to Liza Minnelli, book reviews, broadcasts on Radio Glasnost, Goethe’s Theory of Colours, AIDS, current Berlin construction projects — and the recurring live report from the fall of the Berlin wall on Nov 9, 1989.
